Questions
How much does the Claude API cost per request?
A typical 3,000 input / 600 output token request costs $0.0120 on Sonnet 5 and $0.0300 on Opus 5 at current list prices. Use the Claude calculator for your own token counts.
How does prompt caching change the price?
Writing to the cache costs 1.25 times the input price for a 5 minute TTL or 2 times for a 1 hour TTL. Reading a cached prefix costs one tenth of the input price. Caching pays off when the same prefix is read more than about 1.3 times within the TTL.
What does the Batch API discount apply to?
The Batch API applies a 50% discount to input and output tokens on every current Claude model, in exchange for asynchronous processing with a 24 hour target. Cache pricing multiplies with the batch discount.
Is web search billed separately?
Yes. Anthropic charges $10 per 1,000 web searches on top of the tokens the search results add to the context.
